The Headteacher and staff are pleased to meet parents to discuss any issues as they arise. It is better to meet class teachers after school, by arrangement. The Headteacher is usually available at the start of each day when welcoming children and parents into school. Parents who wish to discuss matters of a private nature with the Headteacher are encouraged to do so, preferably by appointment.
All school parents are invited to sign a home/school agreement setting out the relative contributions of the school and parents to a successful education for children.
School staff receive training in this area and are obliged to pass on concerns about any child to the Child Protection Lead Person. At St Catherine’s this person is the Headteacher. If a child makes a disclosure which causes concern the Headteacher will make a referral to Newcastle Social Services Duty Team. Generally, parents will be informed of this directly by the Headteacher although there may be some circumstances where this cannot happen.
Parents should be aware that the school will take any reasonable action to ensure the safety of its pupils. In cases where the school has reason to be concerned that a child may be subject to ill-treatment, neglect or other forms of abuse, staff have a responsibility to follow the Area Child Protection Committee guidelines.
The Headteacher is the designated Child Protection coordinator.
At all times we will work in partnership and endeavour to establish effective working relationships with parents, carers and colleagues from other agencies in line with Working Together to Safeguard Children (2018) and Local Safeguarding Partners’ Procedures.
