Year 5

Welcome to Year 5

Hello! I’m Miss Murray and I teach Year 5 at St Catherine’s, we also have Ms Phillips supporting us every morning.

PE

We have PE twice a week on a Monday and Tuesday. Please come into school wearing your PE kit on those days. Remember that earrings should not be worn for PE and long hair should be tied back.  It is also important that each child has a water bottle in school.

Homework

Your homework book is due in school each Wednesday so that it can be checked and returned to you on a Friday.

You will have a spelling quiz every Friday and will also receive your new spellings for the week on that day. You will need to write a sentence for each spelling in your homework book.

You will read regularly in school during Guided Reading lessons with myself. Your reading books will be changed when needed so please bring your reading books and reading record into school everyday. Once you have read your book, please use your reading diary to write a few sentences about the book, this might be a short synopsis or reasons why you like or dislike the story etc. Please feel free to record any books/comics you may have read or listened to that aren’t part of our reading scheme too – we would love to hear about them!

In addition to your spelling homework you will also get a weekly English or Maths homework to complete in your homework books. You should also be going on Times Tables Rockstars each night for ten minutes.

Each term you will receive some topic homework. You can choose two or three of the options to complete for this.

If you can’t complete your homework for any reason please let me know

Rewards

You are now in upper KS2 so we all expect you to set a fantastic example and show the younger children how to behave correctly. You can be rewarded with:

  •          House points
  •          Gems – each table in the class work together to earn gems which will be exchanged for big class rewards!
  •          We have a treasure box and Star box that children will be able to choose a prize from for extra special work.
  •          Star Assembly – On a Friday, children from Year 5 will be recognised for their hard work in the Star Assembly.

Should you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask. I am usually free after school from 3:20 to 4, except for Wednesdays when we have a staff meeting. If there is anything you would like to talk about privately let me or the office know and we can arrange for a more private place to talk.

I look forward to teaching you all and I am sure you will have a fantastic year in Year 5!
