Fire Engine

Reception children were so excited today when a fire engine arrived from Byker Fire Station.

Everyone was able to sit inside the fire engine and try out some of the controls. The children used the huge hoses to spray water and many of them had great fun aiming their hose over the top of the fence and soaking Mrs Murray's car!

The team of fire fighters were amazing and they talked to the children about keeping safe on Bonfire night, and also about keeping safe in the dark and the importance of wearing reflective clothing to make them more visible. This tied in very nicely with our current topic Light and Dark.

They finished off by showing everyone all of the equipment stored on the fire engine and describing the important jobs each of them does. We learnt a lot about the role of a fire fighter and hope to be able to visit the fire station ourselves in the summer term.
