SEND INFORMATION
Copies of the school’s policy for Special Educational Needs (SEN) are available through the school office for parents on request.
The school works closely with Newcastle LA’s Special Educational Needs Teaching and Advisory Support Service (SENTASS) and SEND consultants when assessing children who may have special educational needs. We always involve parents at an early stage and seek to keep parents informed of progress through regular informal contact and through more formal review meetings.
The school takes an inclusive approach to teaching pupils with SEN and offers a differentiated curriculum within the classroom to all pupils. Learning Support Assistants work with all year groups to support children in various ways. Children are supported in Numeracy or Literacy programmes and can be supported within the classroom or withdrawn for small group work in another teaching area.
Our Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO) is Ms Haddow.
SENSORY ROOM
We are delighted to share our Sensory room is now complete. Our sensory space is a designated area which will support the children's sensory preferences and needs. The space will provide our children with the individualised sensory input they need to self-regulate, so they can be better prepared for learning and interacting with others.
Our sensory room offers a therapeutic space for children and adults with autism and other special needs. Choices of equipment can be used to improve a variety of physical and cognitive skills. The calm environment of a sensory room may help our children with behavioural difficulties.
