Year 1
Year 1
Welcome to Year 1!
Welcome to the Year 1 class page.
Miss Barnes is the Year 1 teacher supported by Mrs Philips in the mornings and Mrs Nixon on Tuesday afternoon.
In Year 1, learning is all about fun, excitement, and discovery. Every day brings new opportunities to explore, create, and grow. We love to learn through play, hands-on activities, and working together, building confidence as we take on new challenges. This year, we can’t wait to see the children flourish as they develop their skills, imagination, and independence. Year 1 is a very special step in their learning journey, and we look forward to sharing all the wonderful achievements along the way!
Homework
Spellings will be sent home on Friday, please bring back the following Wednesday. There will be a test the following Friday.
Each day your child is expected to do the following at home:
«10 minutes reading
«10 minutes learning of spellings
Please sign when you have listened to your child read. Your child should bring their reading books in everyday so we can change them when necessary. Shared reading books will be changed weekly. Please record any reading in the reading record diary. I love to hear about all of the different books your child has been reading, not just the schoolbook.
Children should have a book bag to carry letters, homework, reading book and reading record. This is to come to school every day. No backpacks as we have limited room in the classroom/cloakroom. Please ensure that your child always has a labelled water bottle in school. Please label school clothing too.
PE will be on a Tuesday and Thursday. Your child will come to school in PE kit on PE days. The school PE kit should include: a blue t-shirt, blue or black shorts/jogging bottoms and trainers. No jewellery to be worn during P.E. lessons.
We use Dojo to communicate with parents and upload photographs from their school day. On Dojo you can also see how many SHINE points your child has received.
I am available after school if you wish to discuss any issues or concerns.
If you wish to arrange an appointment, please contact the school office.
Thank you for your continued co-operation and support
